The brutal crackdown on illegal drugs, dubbed as “Oplan Tokhang,” has already been put on hold over controversies hounding the Philippine police.
However, the nightly killings of vigilante groups mostly to hapless people linked to illegal drugs continue, with at least five to eight deaths each night along the silent and dark streets of Metro Manila.
Since President Rodrigo Duterte rose to power in mid-2016, thousands of drug suspects in poor communities have been killed without trial at the hands of police and unknown assassins.
